RACE RULES
*** The Avalanche Marathon Japan uses rider-friendly rules that state you may run the race with support from a third-party and also an official mechanical service.
:: Course Inspection ::
  • All competitors must take a course inspection during the inspection period before Qualifier.
  • All competitors must attach the admission sticker from the Participants' Packet received at event registration desk at the event site. Each racer must display the proper credentials on their bike during the inspection run.
:: Positioning ::
  • Day One - Morning for training, then positioning-qualifying races in the afternoon.
  • Qualifiers will be started in 5 classes, Bambino > Cadet > Ladies > Families > Wheelchairs at 30-min-intervals.
  • Every participant, as well as every rider, will get his/her position on the start line for DAY TWO races from their qualifing results.
:: Racing ::
  • During both races, Qualifiers/Finals, competitors are allowed to receive support from the official aid zones, a third party and a team support member.
  • Competitors are allowed to change a wheel, bike or off-road wheelchairs during the race at any time and anywhere on course by attaching the detachable B1B tag on MTB/Off-Road Wheelchairs.
  • Competitors who take a pinch rider will be disqualified.
  • It allows for competitors to push or carry another competitor's bike.
  • The official aid--fluids, food and mechanical service--will be provided at three official aid zones on the course.
  • If a competitor gives a crush or unpleasant feeling to other participant by force-passing, he/she will be disqualified or will be demoted.
  • Finals on DAY TWO will be started in a class together, marathon style, using Qualifier results.
  • Maximum race time limitation will be set at 90 min.
  • All competitors must use protective gear. A full-face helmet with other protective gear is recommended. You can purchase DH protective gear at the event site.
  • The course distance is 6.7 miles. If something like mechanical trouble happens, it may take a long time to reach the bottom of mountain. Bring a camel bag, tools, spare tubes and be prepared.
  • An official free mechanical service will be offered at the central feed zone and at the finish.
  • Townies and non-suspension bicycles will not be allowed.
  • We recommend to get a front-suspension bike if you are planning to purchase a bike.
  • Minors and beginner riders must run with an expienced rider during Qualifiers.
  • You may cross the finish line by walking but your bike or your off-road wheelchair, will be required to finish with you.
