| Off-road wheelchairs are tools to enhance accessibility to the outdoors for people who use wheelchairs or have limited mobility. Instead of adapting the environment, off-road wheelchairs adapt the person to the terrain. Off-Road Wheelchairs make it possible to get to places that would not otherwise be accessible in everyday wheelchairs. Since 1997, Team Phoenix has hosted Off-Road wheelchair Clinics throughout the US. The non-competitive clinics give people the chance to experience the exciting and thrilling sport of off-road wheelchair riding in a fun and affordable way. Off-Road Wheelchair Racing began as a means of bringing off-road wheelchairs to the public and creating awareness about the available of equipment. Off-Road wheelchair racers compete at mountain bike events in the downhill, duals slalom, and biker-cross categories. Off-Road Wheelchairs compete on the same courses as 2-wheel mountain bikes. As a non-segregated sport, Off-Road Wheelchair Racing combines both non-disabled and disabled competitors and enthusiasts at the same event and on the same race courses. |
